SUMMARY OF MINISTRIES

Audio/Video Technicians
Audio/Video technicians are responsible for all church audio and video setup and recordings during services and other special events that the church may sponsor.

Boy Scouts
The Boy Scouts ministry is open to all boys ages 6 to 15 in the church and in the community. It engages in activities that will aid in propelling boys to successful heights in mankind. Meetings are held each Tuesday at the church during the public school calendar year.

The Boy Scouts goal is to train youth in responsible citizenship, character development, and self-reliance through participation in a wide range of outdoor activities, educational programs, and, at older age levels, career-oriented programs in partnership with community organizations. For younger members, the Scout method is part of the program to inculcate typical Scouting values such as trustworthiness, good citizenship, and outdoors skills, through a variety of activities such as camping, aquatics, and hiking.

Brotherhood
The mission of the Brotherhood Ministry is to create and sustain a spiritually vibrant and biblically based ministry of service to God, the church and the community. The purpose of the Brotherhood Ministry is to engage the men of Second Calvary in a dynamic relationship with God through personal faith, church commitment, and discipleship through prayer, worship and scriptural study.

The Calvaliers
The men’s choir is composed of men of the church. The men embarked on the mission of service, religious enhancement and community involvement through singing to the Glory of God. The voices of the Calvaliers raised in song add inspiration in the worship services on the third Sunday and enrich other church programs at which they perform. The group has performed at numerous churches and events in the Columbia Metropolitan area and at other locations throughout the state.

Care Callers
Most congregations have members living alone, members who are sick and shut in, and members who are elderly or physically challenged. These members appreciate someone from the church calling once or twice a week to say hello or to make sure no emergency has placed them in a life-threatening situation. They also enjoy knowing that someone cares. Sometimes a simple phone conversation brightens their day.

Caring Callers is a ministry of love and connection. Volunteers provide a friendly, caring “visit” to members of our church family through a short phone call. This is a way to extend God’s love, concern, and help, if needed, to members who are unable to attend church or who have missed services. Our faithful volunteers make a difference in homebound members’ lives everyday and receiving a blessing in return.

Children’s Choir
The Children’s Choir is a training organization for children ages 6 – 12. Children are taught a variety of styles of church music including: anthems, hymns, spirituals and gospels. They are also taught to read rhythmic and harmonic patterns. Part-singing is introduced at this level using rounds, partner songs and songs with simple harmonies. The choir lays the foundation for a lifetime of service in the music ministry of the church

New Members Class
The doors of Second Calvary Baptist Church are always open for new members. In order to become a full member of Second Calvary Baptist Church, you will have to complete the new members class. The new members class is designed to inform you about the church and what it means to be a member of the body of Christ at Second Calvary Baptist Church. For more information, please see the new members page of our website.

Nursery
It is our desire at Second Calvary Baptist Church Nursery to have a room that is environmentally safe and clean; to establish an atmosphere of love and laughter for young children so they may experience the love of Christ from the volunteers caring for them; to give parents confidence (as best we can on our end) that their precious children are being cared for by loving and trustworthy caregivers and volunteers. We believe every child can experience the wonderful love of God through the nursery ministry.

P.U.S.H.
The purpose of the Young Adult Ministry is to help strengthen young adults’ relationships with God, with each other, and with other members of the Body of Christ. The mission of P.U.S.H. is to get together to enjoy fun, laughter and friends; to serve our God and our church and to grow spiritually. We strive to encourage one another to explore our relationships with Jesus Christ, the Church and one another.

Today a significant number of young people are un-churched or inactive in the church. Our plan for the Church (people of God) is that we unite cooperatively to counter the enemy’s attack on our young adults and to help them learn how to live Godly lives. We are challenged to take a course of action for the development of the Second Calvary Young Adult Ministry.
