During his military career Rev. Johnson united with various local churches serving in various capacities. He attended various conferences and seminars with the Oklahoma Baptist State Congress of Christian Education and the National Baptist Convention USA Congress of Christian Education.
Following a distinguished twenty-year Air Force career, Rev. Johnson retired and relocated to the Hampton Roads area. He was employed as an educator in the Chesapeake Public Schools as an Air Force Junior Reserve Officers Training Corp (AFJROTC) Instructor for fourteen years. Rev. Johnson accepted his calling to the ministry in February 2004, preaching his initial sermon and licensed in February 2005 at the First Baptist Church East End, Newport News, Virginia. He was ordained in October 2007 and called to the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Suffolk, Virginia in February 2010 where he was confirmed as Pastor in September 2010.
Pastor Johnson was instrumental in the "spiritual" and the "physical" transformation of the Pleasant Grove Church for fifteen years as Senior Pastor. Dr. Johnson fervently acquired financing for a building project obtaining a 20-year mortgage. He then led congregants through responsible stewardship and teaching resulting in the church paying off a 20-year loan in "full" in a 7 year period, resulting in a debt-free ministry.In June 2026, Dr. Johnson returned to his hometown as Senior Pastor of the Second Calvary Baptist Church continuing a rich legacy of leaders.
His educational accomplishments include earning an Associate of Arts degree from Saint Leo College, Florida and an Associate of Applied Science degree from the Community College of the Air Force. He also graduated with honors with a Bachelor of Science degree in Management from Oklahoma City University. He attained a Master of Divinity Degree from Virginia University of Lynchburg and he also earned a Doctor of Ministry degree from Chicago Theological Seminary.
He is married to the former Michelle Pierce of Hampton, Virginia and they have two adult children, Brandon and Lauren and three grandchildren, Jayden, NaIma (Na-Eema) and Sincere.
Led by God, Dr. Johnson continues to Equip Saints for the Work of Ministry through "PREACHING THAT ACTIVATES CONGREGANTS IN MINISTRY: INVITING, INSPIRING AND ENCOURAGING."
